"Normal Headaches"

Headaches are not normal. They’re a sign that something is wrong. Your body is designed to be free of pain. Feeling good is the normal state. Feeling throbbing, pounding pain in your skull that doesn’t want to go away is not normal. Neither is feeling nauseous at the sight of a bright light. However, thanks to those clever TV commercials, medicine cabinets, purses, and glove compartments all over the country are filled with medication for the "normal" headache.

SIX MYTHS ABOUT HEADACHES:

1. Over the counter medications treat the cause of your headache.

These pills cover up your headache by simply disabling your brain's ability to feel your headache. That’s why your headache comes back when the pills wear off. The real cause of your pain goes untreated, and that’s why you keep suffering.

2. Headache medication can't harm you.

All drugs have side effects, and the more often you use any medication, the more your risk increases. Whenever a drug disables the messages being sent to and from your brain, it also interferes with your body’s ability to communicate other messages, which can affect your immune response. Not to mention risks like ulcers, bleeding, liver and kidney dysfunction, and allergic reactions.

3. Stress causes headaches

Stress does not cause headaches. It is how your body adapts to stress that determines if stress will affect your health.

4. Headaches go away on their own.

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results." If you truly want to get rid of your headaches, then you're going to have to try something different, something drug free, and something that is proven to work.

5. All doctors know how to treat headaches.

If you're a hammer, all you see is nails. Most medical doctors prescribe medication. If you've tried medication and it hasn’t worked, expecting a different approach from your M.D. will only leave you disappointed. You need a doctor who will get great results without the risks associated with medication or surgery.

6. Your problem is always where your pain is.

One of the most common types of headaches that does not originate in the head is called a cervicogenic headache. Cervicogenic is a big word for a headache which originates in the neck. M.D.’s may recognize this type of headache, but chiropractors treat it.

You may have a cervicogenic headache if you answer YES to any of these six questions:

  • Has your neck ever experienced trauma?
  • Have you ever been in a car accident?
  • Have you ever played football or any other contact sports?
  • Have you experienced many “minor” injuries?
  • Is your neck stiff or, at times, difficult to move?
  • As a child, did you experience a fall off a swing, porch, down stairs, etc.?

If you answered YES to any of the following questions, conservative chiropractic care is proven to be the safest, most natural treatment option.
